"Animus" is the next stop on The OM Sound's journey of monthly music releases, this time featuring BC-based artist T-rav The Transformer as collaborator, remixer, and fellow visionary. Combining elements of several songs recorded recently by the band, it is an imaginative and artful mashup of epic proportions and sets a trajectory for a strange, distant galaxy.
Having performed with T-Rav (who is both an incredible musician and visual artist) several times while touring the west coast of Canada in recent years, The OM Sound seized on the opportunity to collaborate with him for this release - giving him creative license to transform multiple songs into one, unified creation. Grounded firmly in the hip-hop genre, Animus introduces elements of dub, electronica and psychedelia. The track was composed using song elements from "Unanimous", "Time Shift(ed)", "Chimera" and "Suspicious Auspicious", as well as original material recorded by T-Rav himself.
The title of the track is taken from the lyrics of "Unanimous" (soon to be released), and can take on several, somewhat contradictory meanings. In one sense, animus is the antithesis of unanimous, signifying animosity or "difference". Or closer to the original Latin definition (mind or spirit), it can be alternatively interpreted as the "soul" or sustaining essence of a person. Since the song is a remix that takes something and completely changes it, Animus is an appropriate title - especially when you consider the fact that the word animus is contained within the word Unanimous!
The official music video accompanying Animus is directed by Zachary Wilkins and features Wilkins on a skateboard, with appearances by the band in various locations in downtown Montreal. It is a continuous sequence of footage alternating between band members and Wilkins, resulting in a seamless storyline weaving through the city. The "one-shot" effect of the video is apt, given that the song itself is composed of several disparate elements woven together into a single stream of audio.

Animus
Mind, breath, life, tone
Let it all
Go
Yeah
I heard a rumour 'bout a time shift
By-product of a mind lift
But wait - first let's rewind this
Better yet, full-stop, subconscious
Remembering the conquests and everything beyond
Past-lives recorded honest
Your karma in atomics
Code, fate, genetics, all this
Can erase and re-accomplish
Make a wish, time shifted
Insist on visualizing things that make your mind and body lifted
You're gifted
So manifest your bliss
Go within to find, vibration's all there is
You're part of it
Might as well correct yourself before you wreck yourself
Need vs want vs money vs health vs wealth
Definitions justify things we could do without
Deify "me and mine," blind eye 'til we bottom out
Static delete kit is somewhat in kind to ammo
But passive once you're past it, serpent waking under control
Ego's throwing punches, in the ring I am my own foe
But I trained for this, retaliate, lyrical hook to K.O.
Shift time, I'm with it, intuition, know tomorrow
Incipient intelligence engrained in power borrowed
